When a car gets to be over ten years old, things need to be replaced. The Scirocco is no exception.
While there are a few things the ever vigilant VW owner must have, few are as important as a greasy finger cleaner. Mine looks like this. As you grip the sides, the grease rubs right off.
This thing also doubles as an invaluable reference for disassembly, repair, and replacement of various components.
As you look at the pictures in the guide you will notice lots of special purpose tools, just right for whatever it is you are working on. Captioned in the picture you will always see a VW tool number.
You might think to yourself "gee, why don't I pop down to the dealer and see if they have one of those, can't cost too much". I still laugh to myself when I think back. Seems simple enough. "Hi, I would like VW tool number vw..."
Well, they won't sell-rent-lend or even casually talk about tools. What's a guy to do?
